Just when I was starting to get back on track...

Well I decided to go to the dr yesterday, being that it was Friday and I was still feeling weird, you know, just to check it out. Well the dr sent me to the emergency room. After 10 hours in there, they still aren't sure what the problem is! The ER docs thought it was a metabolic reaction to a medication I take that was making my blood pH too low, therefore I was needing to breathe like that to try to compensate. The family practice docs who came to admit me thought it wasn't that, it was just hyperventilation from anxiety. Kind of a post-stress delayed reaction (oh-kaayyy....)
I think it was mainly asthma. So after 10 hours, about 40 ounces of blood drawn, a bag of IV fluids, and finally a nebulizer treatment, they let me come home - at midnight, in a snowstorm! LOL! I did feel a fair bit better after the nebulizer, but not 100%. Today I'm about the same as last night, which is a slight improvement over the last 4 days... So who knows? I am using an inhaler, and I'm going to call around and see if I can get in with an acupuncturist soon. I guess I'll follow up with my regular dr on Monday...

And you don't even want to know what I ate yesterday! :)

  1. What an ordeal! I'm glad you're okay. I have asthma, so I can relate to the feelings you've been having. It is no fun! I hope it passes quickly!

  2. Holly! I am glad you're feeling a little better. If only doc's would listen to their patients more.

  3. Yikes! I hope you feel better soon. Have you considered going to a homeopath? I stinks not being able to breathe, and it's even more frustrating that nobody can give you a straight answer.

  4. OK just catching up with you. Sorry about you not feeling well. The anxiety thing sucks. It it so nebulous. Basically = we don't know for sure so here is a diagnoses that we can neither prove nor disprove...it could be built up stress that is causing your chest to feel tight.. that is what happens to me...I would try some relaxation exercises and stomach breathing. But the other things I would be aware of are that your blood sugar isn't getting too low from skipping meals etc and also just to be safe do you have a CO2 monitor in your house?

  5. Kate - the very first thing I did was wake up hubby and make him go get the CO detector and make sure it was working!

I am going for acupuncture on Tues, and I am definitely going to have to give homeopathy a serious thought. With all the ER bills, its going to be hard to convince hubby to let me spend any more on health stuff. I should have done those things first - now I am kicking myself! You would think I would know that by now!

  6. We are so ingrained to hop on the western medicine wagon. If only they had 24 hour acupuncture, chiropractic care or homeopathy then we wouldn't have to resort to urgent care. Really this issue is one you want to get to the bottom..the sooner the better..so better to invest a little in preventing than to continue to battle the problem on the symptom end.
